Kate Nuvi 880

My favorite features are the Speak Commands and Where Am I features. The Speak Commands feature can make driving with a GPS a lot safer than in the past. If you need to reroute to a new destination, avoid a toll road, or if you just don’t have time to program your destinationbefore you start driving, you can tell the Nuvi 880 where you want to go and tada! A route to your destination appears. No more trying to look at the GPS and use the touch screen while driving.

The Magellan Maestro 5310 has a WIDE 5″ screen that has a 35% increased readability compared to the other Magellan models so that you never have to worry about having trouble reading your GPS screen when you are trying to find a route to a destination.

Features You can receive LIVE traffic on your Magellan Maestro 5310 and a three month subscription is included in the purchase price to make it easy to try it out. No more being late to meetings! You will know if there is traffic on your route before you go, that way you can reroute to your destination so that you miss the traffic and arrive on time.

6 million POIs are already uploaded on your Magellan Maestro 5310 to make it easy to find gas stations, restaurants, airports, and anything else you may be looking for. Plus, content from AAA TourBook® guide gives you information on diamond ratings of restaurants, lodging, and even member roadside assistance details. This is also helpful because it shows your places where if you use your AAA card, you get discounts, which is always nice as well. Some of the POIs are also interactive and their icon shows up on your GPS map. You can then touch the icon to see a phone number and address or touch the icon to instantly route you to the location.

SayWhere™ text-to-speech directs you by voice, naming which way you go and what street you are on for any route in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This is a great feature because instead of saying “Turn right in 40 feet,” it will say “Turn right in 40 feet on Kate Avenue.” This is helpful because it prepares you for what road you are supposed to turn on. Otherwise you would have to look at the screen and that can be distracting while driving.

You can choose your route by staying on freeways, away from freeways, shortest time, and shortest distance route to customize how you reach your destination. If you choose to go towards an address or a searched POI, it is easy to get there using the new Quickspell technology that gives you intelligent choices based on what you are typing in to be on route to your location quicker! If there is ever a situation where you need roadside assistance for any reason…if you blow a tire…or run out of gas…you can touch the tow truck icon on your GPS and you will instantly have access to information for the nearest AAA-approved roadside assistance. You will be able to see the address and phone number for the company and also your exact address so that it is easy for you to say your current location for your roadside help.
To easily and conveniently find a route home from wherever you are, there is a Home icon on the Magellan Maestro 5310. You just type in your address and save it to the icon so you only have to touch the Home icon whenever you need a route home. The loading time is super fast too, you’ll feel like you’re just trying to load websites using a powerful broadband connection.

The map on the Magellan Maestro 5310 comes in two options for viewing, either 2D or 3D. That way, you can choose which option is easier for you to view your map. The map also automatically adjusts when it is night time in color and contrast so that it is easier for you to see in the dark.

Are you going on a road trip? Or do you just have to run a lot of errands? You can type in up to 20 different locations and find the quickest route to each one! This can help you find the most efficient route to all the places so you do not waste time or gas driving out of your way!You can even take one destination off or add one after you have already started.

Cons of the Magellan Maestro 5310

This is kind of a con and a pro, but the Magellan Maestro 5310 is LARGE. Which is a pro because you can easily see the screen and what it on the screen, but because it is big, it is heavy and sometimes inconvenient to carry or travel with it.

Pros of the Magellan Maestro 5310

The screen is big so it is more visible that most GPS models out there. It has awesome features such as Live Traffic, lots of POIs, AAA TourBook® guide, and it makes it easy to type in several destinations to get the most efficient route.

  1. The map data of Magellan Maestro 5310 is dated September 2007. So you may lose your way at times, as I do in the Zip code 07601. No updates available for the model. The customer support told me that the 2008-2009 update is included in the unit - I found it hard to accept / believe that. When I tried to register at NAVTEQ Map - the map provider of Magellan GPS - they did not have the option of choosing the 5310 model. What I am trying to say is that the map data sucks and you are on your own.

  2. I agree with Shoumo. I just bought the 5310 model and I dare say how can they sell this new item with old map data 2007 loaded on it-disgusting.
I contacted Magellan and wow I can get a free update saving myself 79.95US but have to pay 30.00US in shipping charges, Ah, I don’t think so. This is really disappointing. I like the big screen, the look and feel but old data, come on.
I am returning the unit and will probably buy a Garmin as I had originally intended on doing.
