Kate Nuvi 880

My favorite features are the Speak Commands and Where Am I features. The Speak Commands feature can make driving with a GPS a lot safer than in the past. If you need to reroute to a new destination, avoid a toll road, or if you just don’t have time to program your destinationbefore you start driving, you can tell the Nuvi 880 where you want to go and tada! A route to your destination appears. No more trying to look at the GPS and use the touch screen while driving.

At the extremely low price of $149.95, this TomTom GPS has a simple and easy to use design but at the same time has some technologically advanced features that other GPS models in this price range (Garmin…Magellan…) do not have. The TomTom quality image is consistent throughout their products and they do a great job of this with certain options like the TomTom Home and the TomTom Mapshare Technology.

Features

Standard to all GPS models, the TomTom One 130 comes in its box ready to be used and it’s simple enough to navigate that you do not even need to read the directions. It also comes with a mount for your car to easily place your TomTom One 130 on your dashboard to use at your convenience. Additionally, the TomTom One 130 comes with a super large speaker so that you can hear all of the directions very clearly.

Unlike any other GPS company, TomTom has a unique feature that is part of all of the TomTom GPS models and that is the TomTom Mapshare Technology. The reason why this is GREAT is because the world is constantly changing…roads change, construction closes roads down, a one-way road becomes a 2 way road, new roads are built for a new development, the list goes on and no GPS manufacturer can prepare for the future when they upload the maps onto each GPS.

TomTom fights this problem with their Mapshare Technology. First of all you plug your GPS into your computer and it will upload any updated maps. Second of all, if you are on the road and see that construction has closed a road, you can input it into your GPS. Then when you plug your GPS into your computer for updates, your TomTom GPS updates the system so that other people can find out about that road being closed that you inputted. With it being almost impossible to track all of the changes in the maps around the world, TomTom gives the ability to its consumers. Therefore the maps for the TomTom GPS should be more up to date than any other brand. All I can say is… wow…TomTom is smart.

Another excellent high quality feature of the TomTom brand is the TomTom HOME software. It is just another way that TomTom ensures that your GPS is up to date providing new software updates for maps, access free content, and download new POI points. Sooo, lets say you are the BIGGEST fan of Dunkin’ Donuts ever…well you can download the POI, Dunkin Donuts, and every time you come remotely near one, your GPS will let you know…No more having to go to Starbucks or McDonalds because you passed the Dunkin a few miles ago…Doin’ things is what I like to do…. A great feature of the TomTom One 130 is the Help Me! menu. Let’s say you get stuck somewhere, your tire bursts, the car is heating up abnormally, whatever it may be. You just turn on your GPS, press the Help Me! icon and choose what you need…if it’s a hospital, tow truck company, nearby gas station, whatever…the Help Me! menu has what you need and a phone number to call for help! This is incredibly convenient for any situation you may be in, especially if you are in a foreign place. How often do you carry around the nearest hospital’s phone number? The Help Me! menu is a nice feature for this basic TomTom GPS model. The final best feature of the TomTom One 130 is that it is compatible with the RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver that tells you about traffic before you reach it! No more being late for meetings or worse… interviews…you will know where the traffic is before you get there so that you can change your route and get to where you need to be on time! However, there is a catch…the RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver is sold separately and costs $99.95…ouch…but if you decide to use it, definitely a cool feature of this TomTom One 130. Cons of the TomTom One 130 If you pay $50 more or so, you get text to speech with the TomTom One 130S. Basically, the TomTom One 130 says, “Turn left in 50ft,” while the TomTom One 130S says, “Turn left in 50ft on Magnolia Avenue”. The traffic receiver is almost $100 extra, not including the service fee, and it is a separate part that you have to mount to your windshield. Pros of the TomTom One 130 You can customize your GPS so that it alerts you every time your favorite restaurant/coffee shop/ice cream shop/gas station pops up, the map is always up to date, and you can feel safe in it because if you do have a problem on the road, the Help Me! features gives you options that will take care of you! The TomTom 130 is inexpensive, easy-to-use, and has all of the quality features of the other TomTom models. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Have a favorite feature? Anything else? Leave a Comment!
